Rated 4 out of 5 by Update to previous review - Broan fixed heater issuer This review is from: Broan 100HL Directionally-Adjustable Bath Fan with Heater and Incandescent Light (Tools & Home Improvement) When we initially purchased this fan it did not function correctly. The heater unit kept burning out after very little use. The manufacturer "Broan" was very responsive to this situation. They have since produced a new heating unit insert that they sent free of charge to us for both of our fans. It was easy to install, the heaters have been working very well since then. So far, no further problems. Thank you Broan for being a responsible company. May 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Heater is a bust! Like many other reviewers, I've had issues with the heating element failing. I am on my fourth element in two years! The heater fan works fine & I checked to make certain things weren't dirty or airflow restricted. Very frustrating as the HEATER feature was the primary reason we bought this model & cut a larger hole in the ceiling. This model is too expensive to have this recurring failure. Broan/NuTone should think about reviewing the heater element spec / thermal fuse as there is obviously a problem with it. April 12, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product for my log cabin bathroom. within one week after installing the heater elements quit. I was extremely pleased when I was able to receive a replacement. Thank you, Maybe you could design it with replaceable fuses or resettable overloads. March 15, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Unreliable I bought two - one was excellent, lived up to expectations. The other required a motor replacement within 2 months. Replacement turned loud noisy within 6 months of replacement. February 26, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Heater motor has gone out twice in a year and a half We love the heater, fan, light combo, but the heater motor keeps going out in a short time. That is disappoingint especially for the cost of replacement. February 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great Heater quickly warms the room. Exhaust works well. February 20, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good product -- wish heater were a bit more powerful. I purchased two of these to replace older vent fans in two existing bathrooms. The unit performs very well in the smaller of the two bathrooms; however, in the larger bath, it does not put out enough heat for the larger space. The small heater vent through which the heat flows allows you to direct the heat, but I think something that would allow greater diffusion of the heat would allow it to perform better. I admit that the large bath is very large (12' x 12' with 8' ceilings); however, the unit is placed right outside the shower, but the directional vent only allows heat to flow in a very small area that is not adequate for the room. I am certainly pleased to have heat in the baths now--just keep in mind the size of your bathroom. February 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A great vent/heater/light combination. I am very pleased with the performance of this unit. I will definitely be looking for this brand when shopping for future needs. February 20, 2013

    Answer:
    Nothing to reset.
Make sure your connections inside are good. Do this by unplugging and replugging them. If the heating element is not getting warm, most likely the thermal fuse has blown. Since it is only three days old, try to return it to the store. If you have a meter, check continuity before and after the fusable link. The link is a small silver can in the heater coil( about the size of a 22 round) 1/2 long with a black bit of resin on one end. If it overheats it will fail for safety. Also, make sure that the heater fan is working up to speed. If is binds or runs slow, there is less air flow and it will overheat.

    Answer:
    John,

    Nothing to reset :-(
The thermal fuse is a one-shot deal.

I have an electronics technician (works for me) who looked the heater element over after the most recent failure.

Unfortunately Broan/NuTone did not use the resetting type of thermal switch.

In my review I called upon them to review this (obvious) flaw in design.

    Answer:
I have a 100HFL. If you have a meter you can check continuity of the heater element. There is a heat-fusible link that may have failed. It is a little silver can within the heater wires. Check continuity there. Or, a connector may not be seated correctly. Undoing everything and reassembling the connectors could solve the problem. Also, if the heater fan motor is running slow, the heater could have overheated and caused the failure( I had that happen).

You might also receive an e-mail from customer service, as I did, and a replacement part will be sent out. Tell your story on their review panel.

    Answer:
The housing needs to be flush with the ceiling or the tip of the screw will not come through to catch the acorn nut. If too much pressure is applied, the grille may bow and the lens will not stay in place to cover the light bulb. The housing does need to be level with the ceiling material. Answer:
There is a heating element in the blower unit that is not functioning. I had the same experience with mine. I took it apart, but the element is not repairable. I contacted customer service and they mailed me an new blower unit. It was easy to install. It has been working for over a year now.
